Truthful Acting Through Listening and Response
This course introduces actors to the foundational principles of Sanford Meisner’s acting technique, with a focus on truthful behavior, active listening, emotional preparation, repetition, independent activity, and moment-to-moment response. Students learn how to get out of their heads, place attention on their scene partner, and allow real behavior to emerge under imaginary circumstances.
Through practical exercises, actors explore how listening creates authentic emotion, how repetition builds awareness, and how specific objectives and activities bring scenes to life. The class is especially useful for film and television actors because it strengthens presence, subtle reaction, and believable on-camera behavior.
By the end of the course, students will understand how Meisner training helps actors become more available, responsive, and alive in the scene, not by pretending harder, but by responding more truthfully.
